Located in the heart of New Orleans at 5240 Annunciation Street, Domilise's Po-Boy & Bar is an iconic restaurant that perfectly embodies the city's rich culinary heritage. Specializing in classic New Orleans po’boys, this beloved local establishment serves up some of the most mouthwatering sandwiches you’ll find anywhere, celebrated by food legends such as Anthony Bourdain and Emeril Lagasse, and honored with a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
The moment you step inside Domilise’s, you're greeted by an inviting, no-frills atmosphere that echoes the soulful, down-to-earth vibe of old New Orleans. The space is cozy and unpretentious, making it the perfect backdrop for truly savoring the star of the show — their po’boys.
The menu is a treasure trove of New Orleans favorites. The Shrimp Po’Boy is a standout: crispy, golden shrimp nestled in their famously airy yet sturdy po’boy bread, dressed just right with lettuce, tomato, and a tangy remoulade that dances on your palate. For meat lovers, the Roast Beef Po’Boy and the sumptuous Surf & Turf — a generously loaded combination of roast beef and fried shrimp — offer hearty, deeply satisfying flavors that feel like a warm embrace. The seafood options like the Fried Oyster Po’Boy and Half & Half Seafood Po’Boy showcase the bounty of the Gulf, prepared with an expert hand and served in large, share-worthy portions.
What truly elevates the Domilise’s experience is the perfect balance between crunchy and tender textures, the robust seasoning in every bite, and the authentic freshness of their ingredients. Add a side of their golden, crispy French Fries or the uniquely addicting Boo Fries, paired with an ice-cold beer or a spicy, savory Bloody Mary, and you’ve crafted a meal that is unapologetically indulgent and utterly satisfying.
Beyond the food, visitors consistently praise Domilise’s warm hospitality and rich history. Longtime patron Becky Zackaroff perfectly captured the spirit, describing it as “small and quaint” with a “great atmosphere” where everyone feels genuinely friendly. Cassio Costa Santos reflected on the sense of tradition, noting the deep cultural roots and the fact that even former presidents have enjoyed these legendary sandwiches. Brad R’s glowing endorsement highlights how Domilise’s has become a “true New Orleans staple” and a “must-visit” for both locals and tourists alike.
Whether you’re a first-timer exploring the vibrant cityscape of New Orleans or a return visitor craving authentic flavor, Domilise’s Po-Boy & Bar offers an unforgettable dining experience. It’s not just a meal — it’s a heartfelt slice of New Orleans history served fresh on po’boy bread.
Had to go here. Another tourist attraction. But when you have never been to New Orleans you have to do touristy things. It seems the worst looking places have the best food. Don't discount those places. Great atmosphere and small and quant. Everyone was so nice.
TLDR: A classic New Orleans spot serving some of the best po-boys in the city. Worth the wait every single time. Domilise’s Po-Boys & Bar is a true New Orleans staple that’s been serving incredible po-boys for generations. Featured by legends like Anthony Bourdain and Emeril Lagasse, and most recently recognized with a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide, Domilise’s is the definition of an institution. I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday, and as expected, the line was out the door with about a 30 minute wait for pickup. The staff let us know they were short handed, but we were more than happy to wait, and it was absolutely worth it. The inside is your classic hole in the wall sandwich joint, which I love. There are a couple of two top tables, some counter space, and a few outdoor seats if you want to stay and eat. The kitchen is right in front of you, so while you wait you can watch the team prepping sandwiches and slicing up those famous 8 foot loaves of French bread. We ordered one large shrimp and one large oyster po boy, both fully dressed with lettuce, tomato, and remoulade for the full experience. Both sandwiches were outstanding and lived up to every bit of the hype. The bread had that perfect balance of being crispy on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside. The shrimp and oysters were fried perfectly with a flavorful batter that complemented the tangy remoulade beautifully. Every bite was loaded with generous portions of seafood. If I had to pick a favorite, the shrimp po boy edges out the oyster by just a bit, but honestly you can’t go wrong either way. Domilise’s is a must visit when in New Orleans.
Definitely a place to visit when you’re in New Orleans, this should be in your must to visit list! There’s so much history and culture in this small restaurant. It feels amazing to know so many former presidents went by there and many famous artists. Oh yeah, the food, it’s amazing! Definitely try the swirly fries!
09/12/2025: In all the years that we've been too NOLA, this was our first visit to Domilise's. We came for lunch - hubby had the Surf & Turf and I had the half & half seafood po'boys, both dressed. The sandwiches we ample sized. The Surf & Turf was loaded with roast beef and fried shrimp. It was delicious! The seafood po'boy comes only in the large size with your choice of 2 types of seafood. I opted for the fried shrimp and fried oysters. Rather than mixing the two, half the po'boy was shrimp and other half oysters. Both sides were absolutely divine. The seafood was cooked perfectly as there was a nice crunch with a succulent, satisfying plumpness to the shrimp and the oysters. The fries were also crispy with tender potato-ey centers. Domilise's is a NOLA staple, so don't pass it up! We had beat the rush and were able to get a table. Be prepared for the wait!
